XCOMM Activities: Students Affairs, Activities and Clubs

To explore other avenues beyond the classroom walls, XCOMM has its own student enterprises to challenge their creativity and skills in various ways. Students are exposed to an array of cultural as well as social events which they organize or participate in. With several clubs to its credit XCOMM SAC (Student Activity Committee) engaged its members in organizing student led activities. The student activities are coordinated by Prof. Alwyn Rodrigues SJ and Prof. Arpita Saha. A core team of student representatives help in organizing events throughout the year.

The objectives of the students’ affairs, activities and clubs are:

  • • To provide the students with ample opportunities to showcase their talents and skills which they acquire from their academic courses and from allied sources.
  • • To help the young creative minds to produce, create and to enhance their creativity through various events and activities.
  • • To guide the students to become effective communicators of lives through various events and activities.

The following are some of the major activities conducted by students in the year 2018-19 :

  • Freshers Day Celebration 2017

    Initiatives 2017, is a first of its kind event organized by the Xavier School of Communications. The objective of this event was to showcase the on-stage performing talents of 1st-year B.Sc Mass Communication students. The 2nd and 3rd-year students worked in different areas/specialization of the event and did a YouTube live streaming and narrowcast of the event. Their cumulative learnings of various courses learned at Xavier School of Communications were put in place to do the successful 1 hour 45 minutes of the original content live webcast. This event was planned and executed within 48 hours.

  • Initiatives 2017

    The fresher’s day celebration for the batch of 2017, both UG and PG was held on 15.07.2017, Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. Rev. Fr. Kiran Cotha, SJ was the special invitee for the event.

    Faculty members of Xavier School of Communications graced the occasion. The event witnessed active participation from all faculty members, special invitee and students. Fun games, quiz, singing and dance performances were organized as part of ice breaking sessions between juniors and seniors

  • Teacher’s Day Celebration 2017

    The students of UG and PG of Xavier School of Communications organized and celebrated teacher’s day on 05.09.2017. The students conducted quiz, treasure hunt and entertainment activities for their teachers. They screened a two-minute audio-visual about each teacher. Cake cutting, and customized-personized gifts were also given from the students to all the teachers.

  • Christmas Celebration

    The Christmas celebration held on 21st December 2017 with decorations, carols, fun and many more.

    The film club of Xavier School of Communications was named as ‘XCREENS’, and it conducted series of film screening and discussions for the students.

    The quiz & debate club of Xavier School of Communications was named as ‘VaXvra’, and it conducted film quiz for B.Sc. Mass Communication 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students.

    The creative club of Xavier School of Communications was named as ‘X-nihilo’, and it conducted a T shirt designing contest for the 3rd International Conference ‘Social Media: The Changing Communication Environment’. The jury selected two designs and designers Harshita Agarwal from 3rd B.Sc and Subhashree S Mohapatra from 2nd B.Sc are the winners. Their work was announced as an official merchandize of the conference.

    The photography club of Xavier School of Communications was named as 'Xposure', and it conducted a one credit add-on skill development workshop for B.Sc. 1st, 2nd and M.A 1st year students on the theme of 'Digital Storytelling with Visuals’, with special emphasis on photojournalism from January 19-21st, 2018. This workshop was a coordinated by Dr. V. Vijay Kumar and it is conducted and moderated by Mr. Nithil Dennis, Director, Symbiosis School of Photography, Pune.

    After initial inputs the students along with the faculty members and the workshop moderator went to Unit II market of Bhubaneswar and they captured the momentum of the place and created photo features on different themes. The workshop was highly appreciated.

    The videography club of Xavier School of Communications was named as ‘Xplore’, and members of the club along with faculty Dr. V. Vijay Kumar worked on many audio-visual projects and products throughout the year. They are…

    2. Audio-visual production for National Conference on Remembering Mahatma Gandhi: Compassion and Relevance for Our Times”. Organized by The Center for Humanities and Compassion Studies of Xavier University Bhubaneswar. Held on January 30 - 31, 2018.

    3. Audio-visual production and live webcasting for Vikalp 2017 and 3rd International Conference ‘Social Media: The Changing Communication Environment’ and 4th Convocation of Xavier University Bhubaneswar held on March 28, 2018.

  • Birthday Celebrations

    The Xavier School of Communications started celebrating the birthdays of faculty, staff and students from this July 2017. A small gathering is done and a handmade greeting card, a notice board display design and a birthday tag is presented to the birthday celebrant. For faculty the celebration will additionally have audio-visual screening and gifts. This 2017 – 2018 academic year for 38 times the birthday celebrations were organized for all the members of XCOMM family.
